<br />3{ <br /> <br />THURSDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 25. 1958 <br /> <br />By resolution that follows, Council agreed to share with the Virginia Department <br /> <br />of Highways and the Federal Government in the cost (City's cost estimated to be <br /> <br />$1,000.00) of an engineering survey and plans for improving U. S. Highway 58 <br /> <br />from Bob Gregory Street to the City's East Corporate Limits: <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in meeting assembled this twenty-fifth day of September, 1958, that <br />the City of Martinsville hereby agrees to participate with the Virginia <br />Department of Highways on a matching fund basis of 25% cost to the City <br />of Martinsville, 25% cost to the State of Virginia, and 50% cost to the <br />Federal Bureau of Public Roads, in the preparation of plans for improving <br />U. S. Highway 58 in Nartinsville from Bob Gregory street to the City's <br />East Corporate Limits. <br /> <br />Council approved for Mayor Shultz's signature an easement agreement with the <br /> <br />Carolina & Northwestern Railway Company, permitting a power line crossing over <br /> <br />C&NW property at a location and in a manner descrjbed in said agreement. <br /> <br />~Z'" <br />-11,"':5 <br />I:g <br />\':~ <br /> <br />Council took no action on Councilman Brown's motion that would direct the Electric <br /> <br />Department to destroy all trees interfering with the City's electric lines on <br /> <br />Starling and Cleveland Streets as well as in other locations if the Department <br /> <br />deems there is interference; Council, however, continued the matter for later <br /> <br />consideration. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Council accented with appreciation a gift by deed from the C. Y. Thomas Estate of <br /> <br />a four-foot; strip of land along the west side of Booker Road alongside St. Joseph 's <br /> <br />Church to provide additional right-of-way and the construction of curb-and-gutter <br /> <br />on said street. <br /> <br />Mr. William S.
