<br />3: <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 13 J 1958 <br /> <br />Subject to City Attor:my Stone's apJroval, Council approved far City Manager Hirst's <br />signature a contract between Lanier Farm, Inc., and the City pertaining to the develop- <br /> <br />ment of Root Trail, a street between Cherokee Trail and Corn Tassel Trail. <br /> <br />The matter of "Southwestern Virglnia Gas Comp:l.ny Franchise" was continued for further <br /> <br />study, pending presentation of data developed by consultants for the City in 1951 and <br /> <br />other data which can be developed. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst brief]s- reviewed a stuqy report dated November, 1951, as prepared <br /> <br />by Wiley & Wilson, Consulting Engineers, on the City's water distribution system, with <br /> <br />the request that Council consider this report at its next regular meeting. <br /> <br />m'ii <br />1;i~. <br />I~& <br /> <br />By letter dated May 13, 1958, the Martinsville-Henry County Airport Developnent Corp- <br />oration (Mr. Robert M. Wright, President), requested that the City forego the annual <br /> <br />remal charged the corporation on ci ty-owned property used by the airport group as an <br /> <br />airport. Coumil referred this request to a committee composed of CounciJmen Stone <br /> <br />and Donavant and City Manager Hirst, as appointed by Mayor Shultz. <br /> <br />The Citizens Parking Committee (Mr. !eon Globman, Chairlnan) by letter recommended the <br /> <br />installa tion by the City of a total of twenty-five two-hour parking meters on the west <br /> <br />sides of portions of Broad and Ellsworth Streets. City Malager Hirst indicated that <br /> <br />these recoIIlIII:!Ddations would be included in a forthcoming special report concerning on- <br /> <br />street and off-street parking development. <br /> <br />A petition subnitted by Messrs. J. W. Townes and H. Grady Moore, requesting the rezoning <br /> <br />of sane 2.34 acres of land located in the Chatham Heights area from "B-1 Business" to <br /> <br />"A-l Residential", was referred to the Planning Commission for consideration and <br /> <br />recomnendation. <br />
