<br />30: <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 22. 1958 <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst, in reminding Council of the expiration in July of 1959 of <br /> <br />the Southwestern Virginia Gas Company franchise, inquired of Council as to its <br /> <br />wishes with respect to obtaining the services of an engineering firm familiar <br /> <br />with the operation of gas utilities to prepare and evaluate certain inforrrational <br /> <br />studies on the local operation of the Southwestern Virginia Gas Company <br /> <br />preparatory to Council's exercising its privileges under terms of the franchise. <br /> <br />The cost of such a study was estimated to range from $1,500.00 to $2,200.00 for <br /> <br />preliminary phases to $5,000.00-$6,000.00 for a complete report. Council suggested <br /> <br />that the Manager review study reports and other pertinent data already on file in <br /> <br />this connection and submit his reco.m~endations thereon at the next regular meeting. <br /> <br />By a recorded and affirmative-unanimous vote, Council instructed City Treasurer <br /> <br />William R. Shl~ate to waive and write off a 1957 real estate ~~ penalty, in the <br /> <br />~ <br />n <br /> <br />amount of $11.62, assessed against property on Starling Avenue purchased in 1956 <br /> <br />by the starling Avenue Baptist Church from Dr. F. B. Teague. <br /> <br />}~. C~orge L. Nease appeared before Council and requested the vacating and <br /> <br />abandoning by the City, as well as a quit-claim deed thereto, of that portion <br /> <br />of Sunset Drive (to the west of Memorial Boulevard) which has never been opened <br /> <br />and is bounded on both sides by }~. Nease's property. Upon motion and recorded <br /> <br />vote--Councilman Walker voting "No"--Council approved the following of procedure <br /> <br />outlined in Section 15-766.1 of the State Code, accompanied by proper instrument <br /> <br />in ~~iting, with the understanding Council will give the petitioner a quit-claim <br /> <br />deed to the street right-of-way and the petitioner will comply with Section <br /> <br />15-766 of the State Code. <br /> <br />City }~nager Hirst presented to Council a copy of a resolution recently adopted <br /> <br />by the Henry County Board of Supervisors, in which resolution the Supervisors <br /> <br />requested the City to provide certain "on-street" metered parking spaces around <br />
