80

TUES nt,.y
--

MARCH ~ 1958

In preparation for the forthcoming March 18th hearing before the state 'Nater Control

Board in connection with the City's proposed sewerage system improve:rrents program,

Council reviewed the sample sewer service charge rate schedule presented by City

Manager Hirst at Council's Februar'J 25th meeting. Further, Council went on record

as agreeing to present this schedule to the Water Control Board at the March 18th

he2_ring as a proposal by which the City will attempt to carry out phases of the

improvements program.

By letter and through its representative, Mr. William B. Muse, the Imperial Building

and Loan Association requested a total refund of $417.00 from the City, representing

over-charge am over-payment of local business license taxes for the City license

tax years 1955, 1956 and 1957. This request was based on a si.rnilar request which

has been granted by the State Department of Taxation in which the Department of

Taxation ruled that the Imperial Building and Loan Association has complied and is

complying with Section 58-373 of the State Code. Council indicated favorable

action upon the request upon the condition that this firm certify by letter to the

City that it has complied and is complying with said Section 58-373 of the state

Code.

Hr. Yi. H. Price, Jr., appeared before Council and asked for permission to operate

an automobile "drag strip" on a portion of the former Lester Airport property

.vithin the corporate limits. Further discussion revealed that 1'J.r. Price was

actually requesting the issuance of a local business license-previously denied by

the Commissioner of Revenue-for the operation of such a business. Council

unanimously denied the issuance of such a license, expressing as one of its reasons

the opinion that the operation of such a busiress at t.1Le location mentioned would

constitute a nuisance to surrounding property owners and residents.
