<br />iO <br /> <br />TUES DAY <br /> <br />DECEMlER lO, 1957 <br /> <br />proposal to hold in abeyance the application of that section of the ordinance <br />adopted November 26, 1957 pertaini~ to dog vaccination requirements, pending <br /> <br />consultation with the Health Officer. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that the Virginia Department of Highways will soon <br />receive bids for the reconstruction and/or widening of a portion of Route 220 <br /> <br />North, part of which would include that section of Route 220 North within the <br />City's corporate limits from Fayette street to the West corporate limits. Mr. <br /> <br />Hirst further reported that the cost of the project within the corporate limits <br /> <br />is estimated at $223,598 of which Martinsville's share would be $55,989, as set <br /> <br />forth in a proposed agreement recommended far Council's approval between the <br /> <br />City of Martinsville and the Virginia Department of Highways. Coun:il unanimously <br /> <br />approved said proposed agreement, and authorized City Manager Hirst to execute <br /> <br />same, by adopting the follo:wirg resolution: <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION APFROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE EX&:UTION OF AN AGREEMENT WITH <br />THE VJRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS FOR THE mmOVEMENT OF 0.621 MILE OF <br />ROUTE 220 FROM W.C.L. M\RTD6VILLE TO 0.62 MIrE EAST OF W.C.L. <br /> <br />WHEREAS the City of MartimvillB, wi. th the Virginia Department of Highways, <br />desires to widen and otherwise improve that section of Route 220 (Memorial <br />Boulevard North) within the corporate limits of the City of Martinsville <br />from Fayette Street to the West corporate limits with funds apportioned to <br />the State under the Federal Highway Act as amended and supplemented; NOW, <br />THEREFCRE , <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Cou.n::il of the City of Martinsville, in regular <br />meeti~ assembled this tenth day of December, 1957 that it hereby and <br />herein approves. the entering into an agreement with the Virginia Department <br />of High:ways whereby the Highway Department will submit a project for the <br />improvement of 0.621 mile of Route 220 fran W.C.L. Martj.nsville to 0.62 mile <br />East of W.C.L., from Station 232+62.42 to Station 266-129, designated as <br />Route 220, Project l8W+-7l, Federal Project U-120-l(l) and will recommeni <br />its approval by the Bureau of Public Roads for construction with fums <br />apportiored to the state under Federal Highway Act as amended and supple- <br />mented, subject, however, to the coniition that MartinsvillB shall provide <br />for its proper maintenance and the enforcement of the non-parking regulations <br />after completion of its improvement and subject to other comitions enumerated <br />in paragraphs two through seven of proposed agreenent; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Julian F. Hirst, City Manager of the City of <br />Martinsville, is hereby authorized to execute such agreement on behalf' of the <br />City of Martinsville, Virginia. <br />
