<br />. <br />, <br /> <br />TUFS DAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 10, 1957 <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Council received copies of a report recently prepared by Wiley &: Wilson, Consulting <br /> <br />Engineers, IQnchbm-g, Virginia, on a stud,y of the inadequacies and needs of the City's <br />water distribution system. Council indicated that it might hold a special meeting <br />after January 1, 1958 to further consider and stud,y this report. <br /> <br />Council adopted the following resolution authorizing the closing of the Veterans <br /> <br />'- <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />Training Fund and the transfer of the surplus therein to the School Fund, with the <br /> <br />understanding that should arw of the funds so transferred ever be determined as <br /> <br />belonging to the federal government any ref'urrl thereof would come from school funds: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, for a number of years prior to JUrE 30, 1957 the City School <br />Board operated a veteram training program and expended funds which were <br />reimbursable by the federal govermnent; ani <br /> <br />~".C.C" <br />';II~~ <br />!j <br /> <br />WH"EREAS this particular program has been discontinued; a.rrl <br /> <br />WHmEAS, there remains in the Veterans Training Fund a surplus of $1,038.08 <br />representing an apparent total exp:mditure of like amount through local <br />school funds which were not but should have been charged to the veterans <br />training program; New, nIEREFORE, . <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the C ouneil of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />reguJar meeting assen:bled this tenth day of December, 1957, that the <br />Departm:mt of Finance is hereby authorized and instructed to transfer <br />the cash surplus of the aforenentioned $l,038.08 to the School Fund. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission for its consideration and recommendation <br /> <br />a petition submitted by Mr. Phillip E. Sprinkle requesting the rezoning of certain of <br /> <br />his property, located off Rivermont Heights, !'rom "A-2 Residential" to "B_2 Business". <br /> <br />Council continued for further study an inquiry from Mr. George L. Nease concerning <br /> <br />usage of a certain narrow parcel of land owned by the City off Memorial Boulevard <br /> <br />South, which parcel of land adjoins property owmd by 11I:'. Nease which :Mr. Nease <br /> <br />expects to develop into a business area. <br />
