<br />2 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 12~ 1957 <br /> <br />,-- <br /> <br />AN amINAIDE REQUnUNG THE VACCINATION OF DOGS IN THE CITY OF lIARTImVILLE, <br />REQUJRING THE LICENSIllZ THERFDF, PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMEN'l' OF AN <br />IMPOUNDING OFFICER AND THE ESTABLISHIlEbfr OF A DOG POtINn, GENmALI;Y REGULA.TIID <br />DOGS WITHIN THE CITY, AND PROVIDING PENALTY FOR FAILURE TO COMPLY THERmvITH. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the judgment of Council that in the interest of public health <br />and safety, that Article II of Chapter 2 of the Code of the City ot Martins- <br />vi11e, Virginia, 1956, should be amended; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT CRMINED by the City Council of the City of Martimville, Virginia, as <br />fo1lo1fs: <br /> <br />,_.~ <br /> <br />Sec. 2-5 Vaccination. <br />It shall be unlawful for any person, finn or corporation to 'own, keep, <br />hold or harbor any dog, over the age ot 4 months, within the City of <br />)(a.rtinsville unless said dog shall have been vaccinated or inoculated within <br />a period of 12 morrths with a killed rabies vaccine approved by the Virginia <br />State Department of Health. Any person, f'inn or corporation transporting a <br />dog into the City of Martinsville .from some other jurisdiction, shall be <br />required to conform with the above regulation within thirty days. <br /> <br />~1.1...'~....p.,.; <br />l'l~i <br />~'II~ <br />'i~ <br />LL""'--:' <br /> <br />Sec. 2-6 Collar Tag. <br />At the time of' vaccination, a suitable and distinctive collar tag am. a <br />certificate of inoculation shall be issued to the dog owner. The owner shall <br />have the collar tag affixed to the dog's collar and the owner shall have the <br />dog 'Wear the collar with the affixed collar tag at all times when the dog is <br />not on the owner's property or in the immediate control of a responsible <br />person. <br /> <br />Sec. 2-7 Certificate of vaccination; issuance of license. <br />In order to effectuate these provisions, any person, firm or corporation <br />making application f'or a dog license shall be required to present to the city <br />treasurer, a certificate of rabies vaccination proper1y executed and signed <br />by a licensed veterinarian certifyi~ that the dog has been vaccinated in <br />accordance with the provisions set forth in section 2-5. The certificate must <br />show the date of inoculation, rabies collar tag number, a brief description of <br />the dog, sex and breed and the owner thereof. The certificate must be presented <br />befcre the license is isslmd and must certify that the dog has been proper~ <br />vaccinated within 60 days. When the dog license has been issued the certificate <br />of vaccination shall be so marked and returned to the dog owmr. <br /> <br />Sec. 2-8 No dogs to be at large without license. <br />At no time shall aItY person permit his dog to run at large in any public <br />place within the city, unless the license tax required by law has been paid, and <br />the tag showing such payment is attached to its collar or secured by a cord <br />around its nec~ <br /> <br />Sec. 2-9 Impo~ as <br />Any- dog f'ound in the ci tor not vaccinated, identified or licensed,/required <br />in this ordinance shall be impounded by an authorized official of the city and <br />such dogs shall be held for a period of ten days. The dog may be released to <br />its OImer, within the first five days of' the ten~ period, upon the owner's <br />proof' of owmrship,vaccination ot the dog, payment of the cost of impoundi~ the <br />dog at the rate ot twenty-five cents per drq, with aJl1inimt1Dl of two dollars, and <br />payment of' any fine assessed under the provisions of this ordinance. <br />
