VIR G INIA : ~ SECTION I - FURFOSE AND TITLE ,~ ~ ~ ,. ~ WI ~OO z A. Purpose. There are hereby established subdivision standards and procedures for the City of Martinsville. In their interpretation and application. the provisions of this ordinance shall be held to be expedient and necessary for the health. safety, convenience. and prosperity of the public. Such provisions are intended. among other purposes. to provide for permanently wholesome community environment. adequate municipal services and utilities. and safe and adequate streets. B. Title. This ordinance is known and may be cited as the "Subdivision Ordinance of Martinsville. Virginia". .~ ~ SEC TION II - DEFINITIONS o c u co 3 "'~ ,~ ",- For the purpose of this ordinance, certain words and terms used herein shall be in- terpreted or defined as follows, and words used in the present tens e include the future tense, the singular includes the plural. and the plural the singular, unless the natural construction of the word indicates otherwise~ the word "lot" includes the words "plot". and "parcel"; the word "shall" is mandatory and not directory~ the word "approve" shall be considered to be followed by the words "or disapprove"~ any reference to this ordinance includes all ordinances amending or supplementing the same; and all distances and areas refer to measurement in a horizontal plane. A. Agent shall refer to the duly designated agent of the City Flanning Commission. or where specifically indicated. to the agent of the City Manager of the City of Martinsville, Virginia. B. City Engineer shall refer to the Director of the Public Works Department. - 1 -
