<br />~92 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 12. 1961 <br /> <br />Pending a recommendation from City Manager Hirst and Commissioner of the <br /> <br />Revenue J. David Morris as to terminology and amount of tax, Council <br /> <br />directed that a special and new classification be assigned to local tobacco <br /> <br />warehouse operations for local business license tax purposes. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a letter (dated November 27th) from the <br /> <br /> <br />Henry County Board of Supervisors in which was noted the bad condition of <br /> <br /> <br />an honor roll board erected on the Henry County Courthouse lawn at the <br /> <br /> <br />close of World War II as a tri bute to persons from Henry County and <br /> <br /> <br />Martinsville who served in the armed forces during that war. Council was <br /> <br /> <br />advised that this project was originally sponsored by the Rota!;[ Clubs of <br /> <br /> <br />Martinsvil1e and fussett and the honor roll board donated to the County of <br /> <br /> <br />Henry and the City of Martinsvil1e. Council named Councilmen Burch and <br /> <br /> <br />Stone and City Ma.."1ager PJ.rst as a special committee to meet with the Board <br /> <br /> <br />of Supervisors and, also, take such independent action as it deems necessary <br /> <br /> <br />to attempt to obtain the names of all persons from Her,ry County and 'V.l8Xtinsville <br /> <br /> <br />who served in the armed forces during World War II as well as in the Korean War <br /> <br /> <br />for a permanent record. <br /> <br />Upon request of Copenp~ver Printing Company, which has recently leased a portion <br /> <br />of the I.O.C.F. building at 107 Jones street, Council approved the leasing to <br /> <br /> <br />Copenhaver Printing Company, for $1.00 per year and with a six-months' termination <br /> <br /> <br />clause, certain property owned by the City and located adjacent to the north side of <br /> <br /> <br />I.O.O.F. property, for use as a driveway entrance and off-street parking area. <br /> <br />Upon reconrrnendation of City Manager Hirst, through his memorandum dated December <br /> <br /> <br />12, 1961, Council transferred from its Thlergency Fund account the sum of $1,460.47 <br /> <br /> <br />and, also, increased estimated revenue from the Commonwealth of Virginia (under the <br />
