<br />3~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEHBER 12. 196) <br /> <br />October 31, 1961) and, too, acknowledged a letter from Hr. S. Arthur Hooker <br /> <br />requesting the retention of "business zoning" classification on his property <br /> <br />at 1105 Chatham Heights instead of applying a residential classification as <br /> <br />proposed under the recommended new Zoning Code. Council also acknowledged a <br /> <br />change made in the proposed 'Zoning Hap whereby the Planning Commission, <br /> <br />subsequent to its October 31st presentation, has applied a commercial <br /> <br />;.....- <br /> <br />classification to property along Broad Street. <br /> <br />In response to a petition submitted by officers of the local National Guard <br /> <br />unit, Council adopted the following resolution updating and replacing a like <br /> <br />resolution adopted March 24, 1959, tentatively committing the City of Martinsville <br /> <br />for certain costs, as stated in said resolution, should a new National Guard <br /> <br />armory be constructed in Martinsville: <br /> <br />WHER.EA.S, during the course of several conferences between members <br />of Martinsvil1e City Council and the co~nanding officers of the <br />local National Guard units, considerable interest has been indicated <br />by the Council in obtaining for Nartinsville a new armory under <br />terms and conditions presented by the aforesaid comJnanding <br />officers; and <br /> <br />w~S, as evidence of the Council's interest and efforts, a special <br />committee appointed by direction of the Council has made a study C'rf' <br />availablE~ sites deemed suitable for location of a nml armory and now <br />desires 8.n early review of the sites by the Adjutant General of the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia National Guard; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RES ODJED by the Council of the City of M9.rtinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twelfth day of ~cember, 1961, <br />as furthE~ evidence of its interest and efforts, that it herein expresses <br />its intention of providing at City expense a minimum of five (5) acres <br />of land as a site for the proposed armory and, also, expresses its <br />intention of appropriating ~t the appropriate time the sum of <br />approximately twenty thousand. dollars ($20,000.00) as the City's <br />estima ted. share of the cost. of constructing the proposed armory; am <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />BE IT F'UR.THER RESOLVED that. copies of this resolution be forwarded to <br />the Adjutant General of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia National <br />Guard, and to the commanding officers of the local National Guard units. <br />
