<br />3~ <br /> <br />TUR3DAY <br /> <br />JULY 11, 1961 <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized tb.e execution <br />by City officials of quit-claim deeds whereby small residues of property acquired <br />for Routes 57-58 Reconstruction projects will be released to the adjoining property <br />ownerc" viz., Mr. Quinton 1. Ramsey and County-City Laundry Corporation. <br /> <br />"_." <br />" <br /> <br />Members of the Church of God of Prophecy, located on FiF;sboro Road (Liberty Street), <br />as well as residents of the general area, appeared before Council and registered <br />their objec:tions to the pending construction of a "drive-in" restaurant opposite <br />the church property, claiming that such a business establishment would detract from <br />the res identi al charac ter 0 f the general area. While s ympa thetic to the pe ti tioo ers ' <br />position, Council advised that it can offer no solution inasTTnlch as the proposed <br />restaurant property is zoned for business usage and inasmuch as a building permit, <br />already issued, could not be denied the applicant. <br /> <br />Several re~;idents from the Swanson Street area registered their objections to the <br /> <br /> <br />recent (July 6th) relocating of a weatherboard house--from another location--to <br /> <br /> <br />Swanson Street; however, City Manager Hirst reported that the ov{ner of the house <br /> <br /> <br />has assured him that the pro,!-18rty will be improved in the near future so as to <br /> <br /> <br />become unobjectionable. <br /> <br />-, <br /> <br />'The Martinsville-Henry COlmty Airport Development Corporation requested Council's <br /> <br />permission, which was given, to erect (at no expense to the City) an addition to <br /> <br /> <br />a hangar on property leased to the airport group under contract dated January 1, <br /> <br /> <br />1961, subject to other prevailing condi tions of said contract. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />By its ilnanimous and favorable action, Council authorized for execution by City <br /> <br />officials pending documents whereby the City will convey to the Virginia Department <br /> <br />of HiGhways certain right-of-way required by the Highway Department to enable it to <br /> <br />widen and pave a road (Virginia Secondary Route 821) adjoining a portion of the <br /> <br /> <br />western b01mdary of the airport property. <br />
