<br />J48 <br /> <br />TUES DAY <br /> <br />JULY_ ll}.. 1961 <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reDorted that there is now located in the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />under the supervision of the local civil defense ager.cy, a 200-bed emergency <br /> <br />hospi tal unit, most of which is stored in the City's Central Warehouse. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of the City's Building Inspection Department, Council agreed <br /> <br />to limit the number of persons attending meetin,.:;ss in the Council Chamber to <br /> <br />fifty (visitors). <br /> <br />Council asked that City N~anager Hirst ascertain ownership and maintenance <br /> <br />responsibility of the Servicemen's Honor Roll Board, for World War II veterans <br /> <br />from ?.Iartimville and Henry County, located on the front lawn of the Henry County <br /> <br />Courthouse property, inasmuch as this Honor Roll Board is in need of not only <br /> <br />repairs but also of bringing up to date. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reoorted that under terms of a. contract with the Henry County <br /> <br />Board of Supervisors, dated July 1, 1960, the City has brought its account with <br /> <br />Henry County up to date for the board of City Drisoners at the Henry County JaiL <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst further reported that income from parking meters ha.s decreased <br /> <br />somewhat from the preceding fiscal year, attributable to the developrrent of <br /> <br />privately-owned parking lots in the downtown business area. <br /> <br />Receipt was acknowledged of the allowances approved by the State Department of <br /> <br />Welfare and Institutions for the operation of the City's Department of Public Welfare, <br /> <br />it being noted that in the assistances category the State has approved larger sums <br /> <br />for expenditures than was approved by Council in the 1961-62 City Budget whereas the <br /> <br />State has disall~{ed a request of $519.20 far new office equipment. <br /> <br />Council "'faS adjourned. <br /> <br />l~, ,,,,. <br />W.
