<br />3~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE D, 1961 <br /> <br />requests--that Council defer action on the proposed rezoning until after enactment <br /> <br />of the pending new Zoning Code--were received from several residents of the Indian <br /> <br />Trail-Windsor Lane area. Council, however, accepted the Planning Commission's <br /> <br />recomnendation that the rezoning be effected and, further, adopted the following <br /> <br />ordinance enacting such rezoning and amending the City's Zoning Code and Map: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled June 13, 1961, that the City's Zoning Code and <br />Zonirg Map be and are hereby amended to classify as "B-1 Business", for <br />zoning purposes, that certain propert,y owned by Lanier Farm, Inc. lying <br />on the south side of Spruce Street between Parkview Avenue and Indian <br />Trail for a depth of 250 feet from Spruce Street along Parkview Avenue <br />and for a depth of 200 feet from Spruce street along Indian Trail, with <br />a setback from both Parkview Avenm and Indian Trail of 150 feet and a <br />setbaek from Spruce Street of 50 feet. <br /> <br />Council deferred filling a vacancy on the City School Board, caused by the <br /> <br />resit~nation of Mr. William Franck. <br /> <br />By unanimous action, Council appointed Mr. Morton 'IV. Lester, of 1509 Mulberry Road, <br /> <br />to :nembership on the City Planning Commission, effective July 1, 1961, for the <br /> <br />unexpired term of Mr. William Z. Ford, resigned, ending July 1, 1962. <br /> <br />Council called far a special worksession on the City Manager's recommended city <br /> <br />budget for the fiscal year endi~ June 30, 1962. <br /> <br />A committee representing the Martinsville Council of Garden Clubs appeared before <br /> <br />Council and requested that Council, by appropriate action, declare the City of <br /> <br />Martin3vi.lle a "Bird Sanctuar:lll and enact legislation far the protection of <br /> <br />desirable birds or wild fowl. Council approved the request, pen:ling preparation <br /> <br />and adoption of an appropriate ordinance. <br />
