<br />3( <br /> <br />TUES DAY <br /> <br />MAY 9, 196.! <br /> <br />By petition, owners of property located on Parkview Avenue between Mulberry Road <br /> <br /> <br />ani Spruce Street requested the Council to authorize the plant-mix resurfacing of <br /> <br />that portion of Parkview Avenue and include said authorization with similar work <br /> <br />to be completed during the forthcoming summer. Upon being advised that this work <br /> <br /> <br />is scheduled for the smnmer of 1962 and that the present surface condition of this <br /> <br /> <br />street does not warrant any rescheduling, Council directed that the improvements be <br /> <br /> <br />made in accordance with the general street maintenance program. <br /> <br />Council ackniJW1edged the presence of Walter Smarr, who retired April 30, 1961, as <br /> <br />City Hall custodian-janitor after twenty-five years I employment with the City and, <br /> <br /> <br />fur'ther, acknowledged with appreciation his many years of faithful and effic ient <br /> <br /> <br />service as a City employee. <br /> <br />Council received with concurrence City Manager Hirst's proposed plans designed to <br /> <br />alleviate certain traffic hazards in the areas of the Parkview Avenue-Spruce street <br /> <br /> <br />intersection and the section of Spruce Street extending from Hundley Street to <br /> <br />Brookdale Street. <br /> <br />/,- <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a complaint registered by several citizens residirg <br /> <br /> <br />in the Virginia Street-Princeton Street area, citing certain alleged unsightly <br /> <br /> <br />conditions on the property of Mr. John Jacob Astor Saunders, at 803 Princeton <br /> <br />Street. Mr. Saunders, who was present, contended that his plan of improving the <br /> <br /> <br />property is underway and when completed, probably at the end of this summer, would <br /> <br /> <br />satisfy any objections. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Mr. T. J. Childress, Jr., as agent for theC. Y. Thomas Estate, presented a petition-- <br />which Council referred to the Planning Commission for its consideration and <br />recorrnnendation-requesting the rezoning from "residential" to "B-2 Business" certain <br />
