24 TUESDAY DECE1ffiER D, 1960 Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved and authorized for execution by the City Manager and Council's Clerk an agreement between Hooker Furniture Corporation and the City of Martinsville, which agreement provides for the relinquishing by the City, if requested by Hooker Furniture Corporation, of an easerrent granted by Hooker Furniture Corporation in connection with reconstruction of Routes 57 and .58, in East Nartinsville, and for construction by Hooker Furniture --- Corporation of a retaining wall for "fill-slope" protection in the event the ease- rent is relinquished. City Manager Hirst reported on recent conferences with Henry County governmental officials towards arriving at a mutually-satisfactory contract between Henry County and the City of Martinsville for the detention of City prisoners in Henr-.r County Jail. Council directed City Manager Hirst to confer further with Henry County officials in an effort to obtain a prisoner-da;y rate in keeping with the City Manager's findings on operational costs of the jail. Upon recommendation of C ommiss ioner of the Revenue J. David Morris, and in accordance with advice from the state Department of Taxation, Council adopted the following ordinance amending Section 2 of the City's Real Property Tax Ordinance adopted April 26, 1949, and as amended, to provide conformance with Section .58-829 of the Code of Virginia, as amended by the 1960 Session of the Virginia General Assembly: AN ffiDINAN:;E AMENDING SECTION 2 OF THE REAL PROPERTY TAX ORillNAN:;E OF THE CITY OF MARTIN3VILIE, VIRGINIA, AS ADOPTED APRIL 26, 1949, AND AS .AMENDED - BE IT ffiDAINED by the Council of t.~e City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this thirteenth da;y of December, 1960, that Section 2 of the City's Real Propert.v Tax Ordimnce, adopted April 26, 1949, and as amended, be and is hereby further amended to provide that the first clause thereof shall read, nOn all tanGible personal property, including the property separately classified by Sections 58-829.2 and 58-829.3 of the Code of Virginia, within said Cii7J not exempt from taxation........".
