<br />~10 <br /> <br />T1JES DAY <br /> <br />SEPTE~ffiER 13, 1960 <br /> <br />Board of Supervisors has requested a revision in its contr-act with the City (from <br /> <br />$1.04 to $2.00 per prisoner day) for the board and detention of "Cityrt prisoners <br /> <br />at Henry County Jail. <br /> <br />In response to an inquiry, Council confirmed its recent informal action in selecting <br /> <br /> <br />curb-and-gutter construction projects for the current budget year by including two <br /> <br /> <br />additional lots on Ranson Road in the Ranson Road project. <br /> <br />Through School Superintendent M. L. Carper, the Martinsville City School Board <br /> <br /> <br />indicated its approval of a four-point program designed to provide improved traffic <br /> <br /> <br />safety conditions in the Martinsville High School Area, including the replacement <br /> <br /> <br />and installation of traffic control devices for which Council unanimously--in <br /> <br /> <br />acceptance of the program-transferred from the General Fund's Emergency Account <br /> <br />the sum of $900.00 to the Traffic Department's budget. <br /> <br />The School Board notified Council that architectural plans for the construction of <br /> <br /> <br />a four-room school unit in West Martinsville, south of Fayette Street, have been <br /> <br /> <br />essentially completed and that it desired Council's approval of an application for <br /> <br />a loan from the State's Literary Fund to finance construction. The School Board <br /> <br /> <br />also notified Council that property at the northeast corner of Ellsworth and Brown <br /> <br /> <br />Streets is now being offered for sale. Council withheld action on these two <br /> <br /> <br />matters pending a conference with the School Board.. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst inquired of Council its wishes with respect to acquiring <br /> <br />Appalachian Power Company's electric facilities within the area annexed to the <br /> <br /> <br />City as of January 1, 1960, pointing out the requirement by the Annexation <br /> <br />Court Order that street lights shall be installed in the area by January 1, 1961. <br />
