188

TUESDAY

JULY 26. 1960

Council authorized the advertising of these projects for bids

as well as the usage of available funds for the payment of such

bid contracts as may be accepted by Council and, further,

accepted the easements obtained for recording.

2. The test application for federal aid recently filed by the

City with the State Water Control Board--in connection with the

City's proposed sewerage system improvements program--has been

denied on the grounds that the projects for which initial aid

is sought will not abate stream pollution. Council indicated

an interest in shifting, where possible, the chronological order

of the several sewerage system construction projects in order to

become eligible for federal aid and, in turn, as a means of

accelerating the construction program.

3. The status of the traffic control equipment at the intersection of

Fayette and Church Streets with Memorial Boulevard, City Manager

Hirst inquiring of Council as to whether in its opinion a standby

unit should be purchased.

4. The contract with Mrs. Lucille Andes Weaver--relating to the operation

of a parking lot by the City on her property on East Main Street--

has been extended for thirty days beyond its August 1st expiration

date.

5. Terms and conditions are being considered in connection with the

preparation of a new telephone franchise to replace the present

franchise with Lee Telephone Company expiring August, 1960.

6. Consideration is being given to the request by the Henry County Board

of Supervisors for a rate revision in its contract with the City for

the board and care of the City's prisoners confined to the Henry

County Jail.
