18

TUESDAY

JULY 26. 1960

7. Because of conflicts between property and survey descriptions

dated 1931 and 1959 recorded by the State Highway Department,

the Highway Department has found it appropriate to re-examine

its design plans for the widening of East Church Street from

Booker Road to Bob Gregory Street to conform, if possible, to

present and actual right-of-way owned in the area by the State

"'----

and City. Meanwhile, Council authorized City Manager Hirst to

acknowledge by his signature to an easement agreement with

Mr. & Mrs. W. W. Shockey, of 906 Chatham Heights, relating to

the Routes 57-58 widening projects.

8. The concern on the part of several property owners and business

establishments on Memorial Boulevard over the divider strip

between the traffic lanes on this highway although the City and

the State Highway Department are of the joint opinion that this

strip should not be broken beyong its present intervals.

9. SmIth Road curb-and-gutter project to be considered by Council

jointly with all other similar petitions on file.

10.

The installation of a protective fence along Brown Street west

--,

of Cleveland Avenue, as recommended by Mr. P. S. Ford, cost of

which fence Mr. Ford and his associates offered to bear if the

City will install--Council authorized Mayor Shultz to appoint a

committee (Mayor Shultz naming Councilmen Wilson and Stone; City

Manager Hirst, and Traffic-Planning Engineer McGhee) to confer with

the School Board on this proposal.

-

Vice-Mayor and Councilman Stone requested the removal of "two-hour" parking

restrictions recently posted on Broad Street between Brown Street and the

Norfolk & Western Railway crossing on Broad Street.

Council was adjourned.

'"

6J~~.L ~<'-'
W.
