L08 TUESDAY DECEMBER 8. 1959 Your Planning Commission, at its regular monthly meeting December 2, 1959, considered a matter referred to them by Council. This was a request from Mr. Sam Baldwin and Mr. E. G. Ramsey that the City abandon to them a section of Sellers street between Churhc Street and Memorial Boulevard. After due consideration of this matter, the Commission voted unanimously to recommend the following to Council: 1. That the abandonment of the portion of Sellers Street would not adversly affect the local or overall planning, grovth or development of the City and would be acceptable to the Planning Commission. 2. That the City retain an easement through Sellers Street for an existing six-inch water main. 3. That the petitioners be required to execute an easement in behalf of the City for the sewer line which is presently across property being developed by them. The Commission considered the fact that there has, as yet, been no definite action on a setback on that section of Memorial Boulevard. As a result of this, it is always concerned when new development is proposed in this section of the Boulevard and feels that Council might wish to consider the retantion for setback purposes of a portion of the right-of-way requested to be abandoned. Consideration was also given to the effect of consolidation of properties in that particular section of JvBrtinsville from the standpoint of planning. It was the opinion of the Commission that this would be good for not only the immediate area, but for the comrrnmity as a whole. The Commission respectfully submits the above recommendation for Council's further consideration. ------------------------------------ The Planning Commission, at its regular meeting on December 2, 1959, gave consideration to a request from Mr'. Stafford G. Whittle, III, for approval of a subdivision lying on the 8)uth side of Mulberry Road east of Knollwood Place in Henry Counvy. The Commission, after due consideration of this matter, reached the decision that this subdivision met sufficiently the design standards as established in the Martinsville Subdivision Ordinance. Preliminary approval of this subdivision was granted to the Petitioner. The Planning Commission respectfully advises Council of its action in this matter. Council confirmed the executing by the City of a sixty-day option (from November 21, 1959) with Mr. & Mrs. O. P. Hedgecock, as well as the $500.00 option consideration paid Mr. & Mrs. Hedgecock in connection with agreement dated
