<br />lC <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 8. 1959 <br /> <br />,-, <br /> <br />November 21, 1959 giving the City the right to purchase thirty (:30) acres of <br />land from the Hedgecocks (for a sewage treatment plant site), which land is <br />situated southeast of Martinsville in Henry County between the Norfolk & Western <br />Railvay Company right-of-vay and Smith River near the Norfolk & Western's <br />trestle across Smith River near what vas formerly Fontaine Converting Works. <br /> <br />/.,,-.,.. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of the Board of Zoning Appeals, Council appointed Mr. O. Thomas <br /> <br />Morgan, local arthitect, to membership on the Board of Zoning Appeals for an <br /> <br />'tmexpired term (of CO'tmcilman Thomas J. Burch) ending September 1, 1962. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Lanier Farm, Inc., by letter from its president, Mt-. Rives S. Brow, Jr., and <br />through its counsel, Attorney John J. Hartley, requested approval and acceptance <br />of its subdivision in the undeveloped portion of Corn Tassel Trail, which is <br />included in an area to be annexed by the City of Martinsville as of January 1, <br />1960, the petitioner requesting acceptance and approval before said January 1st <br />under the terms and conditions governing the furnishing of utility services and <br />extensions outside the City's corporate limits. Council referred the request to <br />the Planning Commission, indicating that Council hopes to be able to take final <br />action and execute necessary agreement before January 1, 1960. <br /> <br />Upon written request of the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church, Council ordered the <br />"wi ting off" or abatement of that portion of 1959 real estate taxes applicable to <br />the W. L. Pannill Estate property purchased by Christ Episcopal Church in May of <br />1959, which property the church took possession of as of July 1, 1959 as a part <br />of its church (non-profit) activities. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of the Planning COmmission, relayed City M:l.nager Hirst's letter <br />dated December 8, 1959, Council authorized the Planning Conmnssion to invite a <br />
