Furthermore, Council directed the street

remain open, also pendir..g resolving the matter.

,-

Attorney Robert May, on behalf of Arthur Matson (and wife) and C. R. Dr. Fred Renick, in person, and Mr. Chester Lane, by letter,

owners of property on Rives Road adjacent to or near said alleyway, registered

their very definite objections to the proposed closing. Mr. 1. W. Ramsey,

res ident and owner of property on Thomas Heights, indicated his agreeableness

to completely clos ing the alleyway or keeping it completely open but not to

closing only one end of said alleyway. In view of a question concerning the State

Code provision under which the petition was filed, the petition was referred to

City Attorney Taylor for advice.

..-

COlmcil ordered held in abeyance, until the City has adequate facilities, a

request from certain residents and p!'operty owners along Chatham Road and Douglas

Road for permission to construct at their expense an extension of a City water

main some l,030 feet along Chatham Road to Douglas Road and thence some 800 feet

alor..g Douglas Road.

-

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council went on record as

officially requesting the Appalachian Power Company to conduct, at no expense to

the City but with full cooperation of the City government and personnel, an

appraisal of the City's Electric utility system.
