<br />o <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 14, 1959 <br /> <br />Upon recorrnnendation of Vice-Mayor stone and in accordance with an outline <br /> <br />presented by him, Council authorized the expenditure of some $1,600.00 for <br /> <br />improvements to English Field, in Chatham Heights, to provide additional <br /> <br />recreational area for youth sports activities, subject to execution of satis- <br /> <br />factory agreellEnt 'V'ri th Hooker Furniture Carporation, ovmers of English Field, <br /> <br />for permission to make the improvements and use the field. Council, by a <br /> <br />recorded and unanimous vote, appropriated from its General Fund Emergency <br /> <br />Account to the Recreation Department budget the sum of $1,000.00 to be used <br /> <br />with other Recreation funds for said improvements. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged with appreciation a repart of the Recreation Department, <br /> <br />c overing the past two years. <br /> <br />Upon reconnnendation of City Manager Hirst, Council gave the City Manager <br /> <br />permission to "sound outfl the several property owners whose property might be <br /> <br />involved in a proposed relocation of Stultz Road from Figsbaro Road far a <br /> <br />distance west of the Continental Can plant. <br /> <br />The following (copy of) letter dated April 13, 1959, from Miss Loula H. Carter, <br /> <br />of 307 Brown Street, cormnenting on the proposed new Zoning Code on which an <br /> <br />informal public hearing was conducted April 7th by the Planning Commission, was <br /> <br />referred to the Planning Commiss ion. <br /> <br />City Coun::il <br />Mar tire vi lIe, V:ir ginia <br /> <br />Ge nt Ierne n : <br /> <br />The public meeting held on April 7 for a discussion of the proposed <br />zoning ordinance was so sparsely attended that I feel it necessary to <br />put down in lvriting my thoughts on this subject. <br /> <br />
