TUESDAY

APRIL 14, 1959

/....-.-

It is evident that considerable time and effort has been given to this
draft of the new ordinance, but it appears that the new regulations are
too flexible to protect properly the residential districts. One point
in question is the proposed allovring of commercial parking lots. More
parking areas are needed in the commercial districts, but neither
co:mnercial parking or cemeteries are needed to lower the value of
res iclential districts.

I hope that a great deal more thought will be given to this proposed
ordinance before it is adopted. The special types of uses places in
the hands of a few persons the power to injure substantially the value
of property, thus causing losses to citizens, and taxpayers.

~
/

Very truly yours,

Loula H. Carter

Council adopted the following resolution providing for a new meeting-tine

schedule of Council meetings for the forthcoming sunun.er months, beginning

April 28, 1959:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled this fourteenth clay of April, 1959,
that beginning with Council's regular meeting scheduled for April 28,
1959 and extending through the forthcoming summer the regular meetings
of the Council shall convene at 6:30 P.M.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all other regulations prescribed by the
resolution adopted September 11, 1956, establishing regular meeting
dates and place of rreetings, shall corrtinue in force.

-

Upon recommendation of City Attorney Taylor, Council approved for City Manager

Hirst's signature a deed of correction involving property on Sellers Street sold

several years ago to Nease, Wheeler, and Blackard.

Council wa.s adjourned.

--

') <'<

-''' ....._ ~ -J, \-.-:'''\:.__~.- G ... -.....
