Frith, <br /> <br />appeared before Council and appealed for the construction of curb-and-gutter <br /> <br />along this street as well as for pavement improvements, deemed especially <br /> <br />urgent and necessary because of increased traffic in connection with <br /> <br />installation of utilities to serve new subdivisions in this area. Council <br /> <br />agreed to view this street and its conditions in the near future. <br /> <br />,.-' <br /> <br />Council commended the Police Department, as well as other associated City <br /> <br />agencies, upon recognition by the American Automobile Association (by <br /> <br />appropriate plaque) of the fact and record that no pedestrian deaths have <br /> <br />occurred in the City of Martinsville during the past two years. <br /> <br />Council also acknowledged receipt of a report covering activities of the <br /> <br />Police Department for the month of August, 1965. <br /> <br />",...,-, <br /> <br />Pursuant to request of the American Furniture Company, Inc., Council <br /> <br />authorized the construction of a eight-inch fire-service (water) line along <br /> <br />Hairston Street, west of Starling Avenue, to the American property line and, <br /> <br />also, the widening of this street to provide three lanes of traffic and, too, <br /> <br />the construction of a sidewalk, this last item to be on a shared-cost basis, to <br /> <br />expedite traffic to and from the American plant from its property line to <br /> <br />Starling Avenue. <br /> <br />".- <br /> <br />Pursuant to recommendation of City Manager Hirst, Council authorized Michie <br /> <br />City Publications to publish in one combined form the City's Zoning Ordinance, <br /> <br />Subdivision Ordinance, and utility Extension Ordinances. <br /> <br />To coincide with his resignation as City Manager, Mr. Julian F.
