After <br /> <br />some discussion, Council appointed Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick, M.D., <br /> <br />as Director of the Public Welfare Department but withheld the selecting <br /> <br />of a director for the Civil Defense program. <br /> <br />Council accepted with appreciation a perpetual easement from Lanier Farm, <br /> <br />Inc., whereby the City can drain surface water onto Lanier Farm's property <br /> <br />on the west side of Corn Tassel Trail between Valient Lane and Hazelwood <br /> <br />Lane and, by the constructing of two catch basins, can alleviate flooding <br /> <br />conditions within this block, wherein curb-and-gutter is now being <br /> <br />constructed. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported the following bids received for certain water and <br /> <br />sewer lines (construction), whereupon Council unanimously accepted the <br /> <br />lowest bid, viz., that of Hackler-Seymour Metal Works, Inc.: <br /> <br />Hackler-SeJ~our Metal Works . <br />Prillaman & Pace . . . . <br />Laramore Construction Company <br /> <br />$15,720.30; <br />$1 5 , 800 . 77; and <br />$15,957.50, <br /> <br />these lines being: <br /> <br />611 water line along White Oak Court; <br />8u sewer line along White Oak Court; <br />811 sewer line along Sam Lion Trail; <br />811 sewer line along Sheffield street; <br />811 sewer line through Virginia Furniture property; and <br />61.1 sewer line along Burl Street. <br /> <br />Council unanimously appointed Mr. D. Hurd Goode as Chairman of the Mayor's <br /> <br />Committee on Public Relations, replacing Mr. J. Clyde Hooker, Sr., resigned; <br /> <br />and Mr. W. D. Hartford as a menberof this group, also replacing Mr. Hooker <br /> <br />as a member. <br />
