<br />4: <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 10. 1965 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Planning Commission further reported its recommendation that all of these <br /> <br />properties be so rezoned, ~hich properties lie on the west side of Cherry <br /> <br />Street and extend from the rear (or adjoining) line of the present "C-3 <br /> <br />Commercial" zone to the south line of the Prillaman-Finney lots requested <br /> <br /> <br />rezoned. Council, thereupon, directed that a duly-advertised public hearing <br /> <br /> <br />be held on this proposal at Council's first meeting to be held in September <br /> <br /> <br />(1965) which--because of a conflict with the 1965 annual Virginia Municipal <br /> <br /> <br />League convention to be held September 12th-13th-14th in Virginia Beach-- <br /> <br />Council rescheduled for Tuesday, September 7, 1965. <br /> <br />Mr. Henry C. Reed, Chairman of the Martinsville City School Board, and Mr. <br /> <br /> <br />C. W. Watkins, Assistant Superintendent of City Schools, appeared before <br /> <br /> <br />Council with the School Board's recommendation that a new Senior High School <br /> <br /> <br />building be constructed at the school-owned site on Northside Drive and that <br /> <br />a bond referendum be called in the near future to seek required voter <br /> <br />approval for the project and for the financing thereof, at a total estimated <br /> <br />net cost of $3,084,941 .00, 'which 'would reflect certain Federal and State aid <br />of some $:375,000.00 and would include a new and complete shop building for <br />Albert Harris High School at a cost of $267,403.00. Council indicated that <br /> <br />it would c:;onfer with the School Board in the near future on the matters of <br /> <br />calling for a bond referendum and ways and means of financing the cost of <br /> <br />these projects. <br /> <br />On behalf of Mr. & Mrs. Ben W. Via and the First National Bank of Martinsville <br /> <br /> <br />& Henry County, Mr. W. R. Broaddus, Jr., Attorney at Law, (by letter) <br /> <br />requested the rezoning of the Via property on the west side of Ells.wroth <br /> <br />Street from "P-2 Professional" to "C-2 Commercia1", noting that the First <br />
