Council <br /> <br /> <br />referred this petition to the Planning Commission for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation. <br /> <br />In connection with the proposed widening and extending of Mulberry Street <br /> <br />Extension, City Manager Hirst reported that agreement has been reached for <br /> <br /> <br />the purchase by the City of the Helen Ford Taylor property at the corner of <br /> <br /> <br />Cleveland Avenue and Water Street, including a small tract along Water Street, <br /> <br /> <br />for the cash sum of $19,000.OO~ whereupon, Council unanimously authorized <br /> <br />the purchase of this property. City Manager Hirst also reported that <br /> <br />negotiations are in process with the S. Arthur Hooker Estate for the <br /> <br />acquisition of some of its property, as needed for this project, on Mulberry <br /> <br />Street Extension. <br /> <br />To provide for a relocation of a sewer line near Piedmont Carloading property, <br /> <br />Council unanimously authorized Mayor Wilson and Council's Clerk to execute-- <br /> <br />for the City--an agreement with the Norfolk & Western Railway Company <br /> <br />covering the crossing of the railway company's right-of-way at the new <br /> <br />location. <br /> <br />Council also authorized City Manager Hirst to execute a document, identified <br /> <br />as "Assurance of Compliance", relating to civilian defense under the provisions <br /> <br />of the Federal 1964 Civil Rights Act. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged--and referred to City Manager Hirst--a letter from <br /> <br />residents of First Street, citing certain unsanitary conditions alledgedly <br /> <br />developing from a broken sewer main in this street. <br />
