4:

TUESDAY

JULY 27, 1965

.-

By letter and in person, Mr. R. L. Whitener, Jr., applied to Council for

a "special use permit" to enable him to develop and operate a mobile-home

part at the juncture of Lavinder and Sellers Street, southwest of Memorial

Boulevard. Included in this application were the following requests:

(1) That the tract of land involved, not already so zoned,
be rezoned to ItR-6 Residentialll;

(2) That the present requirement of five acres for such use
oe reduced to 4t acres; and

.-

(3) That the present lot requirement of 3,000 square feet be
reduced to 2,450 square feet.

Mr. Whitener indicated that, should his requests be granted, plans call for

thirty Itstationary" trailers to be placed in this tract to supply housing

for what was described as a special and urgent need. Mr. Whitener also

requested that every effort be made toward expediting his petition. Council

referred this matter to the Planning Commission for its consideration and

recommendation.

To fulfill the intent and agreement of Council1s action of July 17, 1958,

involving the then-proposed Northside Drive and the intended abandonment

of a portion of Dudley Street, Council authorized City Manager Hirst to

execute a llquit-claim" deed in favor of Lester Lumber Company, present owner

of adjoining right-of-way along this portion of Dudley Street.

After discussing an amendment adopted April, 1949, to the City's lIannual leave"

regulations in effect at that time, pertaining to City employees who were

members of the Virginia National Guard, and in view of the more liberal leave

allowances now in effect, COQ~cil voted to make no change in current regulations

insofar as they relate to City employees who are members of the Virginia National

Guard.
