<br />32 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 27, 1965 <br /> <br />of an option to sell to the Post Office Department, from the tract acquired <br /> <br />from the J. R. Smith Estate, such front footage (with depth corresponding <br /> <br />to that described in the July 13th resolution) on the south side of West <br /> <br />Church Street as the Post Office Department might require, up to and including <br /> <br />forty feet, at $1,000.00 per front foot: <br /> <br />WnEREAS, under date of July 13, 1965, the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville adopted a resolution, as entitled above, authorizing the <br />Honorable J. Frank Wilson, Mayor of the City of Martinsville, to <br />execute (on behalf of the City of Martinsville) an option to sell to <br />the United states Post Office Department, for the sum of forty <br />thousand dollars ($40,000.00), a portion of that tract of land <br />acquired by the City of Martinsville from the J. R. Smith Estate, <br />as described in said resolution and for the purpose set forth in <br />said resolution; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an authorized representative of the United States Post Office <br />Department has subsequently indicated need by the Department for a <br />smaller tract of land than was cited in said resolution; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-seventh day of July, 1965, <br />that the aforesaid resolution adopted July 13, 1965, be and is hereby <br />rescinded; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the preface to said resolution adopted <br />July 13, 1965, be and is hereby made a part of this resolution (dated <br />July 27, 1965) as though it were herein recited; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Honorable J. Frank Wilson, Mayor of the <br />City of Martinsville, be and is hereby authorized to execute (on behalf <br />of the City of Martinsville) an option to sell to the United States <br />Post Office Department, for the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) <br />per fro~foot, up to and including forty front feet, a portion of the <br />land acquired by the City of Martinsville from the J. R. Smith Estate, <br />which portion is generally described as fronting the south side of <br />West Church Street between a proposed new east line of City-owned property <br />and the west boundary of property owned by Mrs. Mary L. Semple; and <br />would extend south for a distance of approximately three hundred and <br />twenty (320) feet to a projection of the rear (or south) line of a <br />lot owned by Richardson Motor Company, Inc.; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that said option shall expire at <br />the end of three hundred (300) days from date of option and shall be <br />an assignable option only to the extent that improvements shall be <br />constructed on the land more specifically described in said option, as <br />well as on adjoining land to the east and on land adjoining the present <br />post office tract, for new post office facilities only. <br />
