<br />4: <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 27, 1965 <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the proposed project consists of the re-routing of present <br />Virginia Route 57, from its intersection with U. S. Route 58 at <br />Northside Drive and East Church Street, westwardly along Northside <br />Drive and along a new location to the intersection of Armory Road <br />with Liberty Street (Virginia Route 108); thence along Armory Road <br />to its intersection with Elizabeth Street Extention; thence southwardly <br />along Elizabeth Street to Fayette Street; thence, continuing southwardly, <br />along the extension of Elizabeth Street to its intersection with West <br />Church Street (present Virginia Route 57); this re-routing being a <br />distance of approximately 1.68 miles; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Martinsville, by previous action, <br />has requested the favorable consideration by the Virginia Department <br />of Highways of this project and is of the opinion that such re-routing <br />in the manner proposed will be of great value to the movement of street <br />and highway traffic within, to, and through the City of Martinsville and <br />its e~virons; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twenty-seventh day of July, 1965, that <br />request be and is hereby made of the Virginia Department of Highways <br />for the re-routing and the establishing of a portion of Virginia Route <br />57 within the City of Martinsville in accordance with the aforesaid <br />general location and plan; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Martinsville hereby agrees to <br />participate to the extent of fifteen per cent (15%) of the cost of this <br />project, including cost of engineering, preparation of plans, and <br />construction; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that--upon the completing and the opening to <br />traffic of the now-proposed project--the City of Martinsville will be <br />in accord with the discontinuing of those sections of Virginia Routes <br />57 and 108 as primary routes (as will be affected by the re-routing of <br />Virginia Route 57), under the allocating of funds by the Highway <br />Department for maintenance, construction, and reconstruction of primary <br />routes within municipalities, as provided for and prescribed in the <br />Virginia statutes. <br /> <br />Upon being notified by an authorized representative that the United States <br /> <br />Post Office Department anticipates requiring a tract of land of less frontage <br /> <br />than cited in the resolution adopted July 13, 1965, entitled, "A Resolution <br /> <br />Authorizing Execution Of Option To Sell To The United States Post Office <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Department A Specified Tract of Land Owned By The City Of Martinsville And <br /> <br />Located Within The City Of Martinsville", Council rescinded said resolution <br /> <br />and adopted the following resolution of like title to provide for the executing <br />
