Council placed this draft, in the form of a preliminary <br /> <br />ordinance, on first reading for further study. <br /> <br />As indicated by Council in its July 13th meeting, i.e., it would re-review <br /> <br />the curb-and-gutter petition for the 800 block of Corn Tassel Trail, Council <br /> <br />reported that it has again viewed this requested project and, as a result, <br /> <br />directed that this project be included in the adjoining block project <br /> <br />previously approved for the 1965-66 year. <br /> <br />Council took no action on--other than to continue for study--the complaint <br /> <br />recently filed with Council regarding lIdogs running-at-largell, noting the <br /> <br />pertinent regulations in effect in other Virginia cities and towns, as compiled <br /> <br />by City Manager Hirst. <br /> <br />To correct an inadvertent omission from the adopted 1965-66 City Budget and <br /> <br />to provide funds for the City's final payment on its commitment to the Blue <br /> <br />Ridge Airport Authority toward construction of the new airport near Spencer, <br /> <br />Virginia, Council transferred the sum of $20,082.75 from the Route 58 <br /> <br />appropriation to the airport account. <br /> <br />In acknowledging notice of approval on July 15th by the State Highway Commission <br /> <br />of the proposed relocating of Route 57, as referred to in Council's minutes of <br /> <br />July 13th, Council adopted the following resolution requesting the Department <br /> <br />of Highways to proceed with said project and agreeing to provide the City's <br /> <br />share of 15%, estimated to be $225,720.00 (or 15% of estimated total cost of <br /> <br />$1,504,800.00) : <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Highway Commission of the Commonwealth of Virginia has <br />approved a proposed project involving the relocation of a portion of <br />Virginia Route 57 within the City of Martinsville; and <br /> <br />
