Renfroe, of 1015 Cherokee

Trail, requesting curb-and-gutter construction along his property frontage

at that address on a shared-cost basis and in conjunction with the S. M.

Giddings curb-and-gutter project, Council acknowledged said petition and

advised that this project would be undertaken as soon as can be scheduled.

With prior agreement on the part of Mrs. Lucille Andes Weaver, Council

concurred in the extension--for a period of six months--of the lease agreement

between Mrs. Weaver and the City, which lease agreement expires July 31, 1965

and involves Mrs. Weaver's property on the north side of East Main Street,

a portion of which is used by the City as on off-street metered parking lot.

Mr. William U. Starkey, Manager of the local division of Southwestern Virginia

Gas Company, appealed to Council for the enactment of some controlling

legislation for the protection of local utility systems in instances where

there are damages to utility lines by contractors and others, suggesting that

where excavation work (for example) is contemplated the contractors be first

required to notify the utility companies.

Council was adjourned.

'}~._~
W.
