<br />4( <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 25, 1965 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that it doth hereby <br />agree to share in the cost of this project to the extent of <br />fifteen (15%) per cent, it being Council's understanding <br />that the Virginia Department of Highways will assume <br />eighty-five (85%) of said cost. <br /> <br />Upon reco~nmendation of City Manager Hirst, Council authorized the releasing <br /> <br />of a 36" drain-pipe specification from a deed recorded in Deed Book 50, Page 418, <br /> <br />in the City Circuit Court Clerk's office, conveying by the City certain property <br /> <br />in the vi.~init:r of the intersection of West Church Street and Memorial Boulevard <br /> <br />North, by which release the City and the present owners of said property (being <br /> <br />Nationwide Homes) recognize that a natural drainage-way flows across the property <br /> <br />and that responsibility for conveyance of natural water across this land is that <br /> <br />of the owner of the property, pursuant to and consistent with general law. It <br /> <br />was noted that, although a 3611 drain-pipe was originally specified, a 24" drain- <br /> <br />pipe was installed by the persons to whom the City sold and conveyed the property; <br /> <br />and, too, that it was not necessary to specify in the City's deed of conveyance <br /> <br />any requirement-size as to drainage-pipe. <br /> <br />In the form of status reports, Council was informed that grading and the placing <br /> <br />of base-stone has been completed on the extension of the new road off Liberty <br /> <br />Street, from the new Armory and new Health Center to the southwest corporate <br /> <br />limits and that contemplated additional improvements should be deferred until the <br /> <br />section of this road lying in the county, between the corporate limits and Route <br /> <br />,..... <br /> <br />220 North, is improved and available for motor traffic. Mr. George W. Lester, <br /> <br />Executive Vice-President of Lester Lumber Company, Inc., lldonorl' of the right-of- <br /> <br />way for this new road, reported that the County of Henry is proceeding with work <br /> <br />on the portion in the county, which has been assigned route number 1112, and that <br />
