,-

_.

~-

-

4(

TUESDAY

MAY 25, 1 965

Extension, to expedite right-turn traffic from Mulberry Extension--when

widened--into Starling Avenue. It was reported that Mr. Whittle has offered

to sell this small tract to the City for the sum of $250.00; whereupon motion,

duly seconded, Council authorized the acceptance of this offer and the purchase

of said tract.

Attorney Ebb H. Williams, of the law firm of Broaddus-Epperly-Broaddus, appeared

before Co~ncil and presented a petition in behalf of Mr. Lawson L. Lester, Jr.,

requesting the vacating and abandoning of an unopened street identified as

tlGranit Streett!, off Forest Street, pursuant to the procedures set forth in

Section 15.1-364 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA, 1950, and as amended. Upon motion,

duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council agreed to appoint the required

Board of 'Jiewers whose duty will be to view the street in question and to

report in writing to Council their findings, with special regard to whether or

not any inconvenience will result to abutting property owners should the street

be vacated and abandoned.

Sixteen residents and/or property o'wners in the Highland Ridge-Greyson Street

area filed with Council a copy of their petition addressed to the local Health

Department, requesting that the Health Department refuse to renew a permit--soon

to expire--issued to Mr. Fred T. Martin, of 216 Greyson Street, allowing Mr. Martin

to keep horses on his property at said address. The petitioners cited certain

unsanitary conditions in support of their request. Dr. Charles J. Mathes,

Director of the local Health Department, substantiated these and other conditions

which are in violation of the non-conforming permit now in effect and, further,

indicated that he would not renew the permit under such conditions, to which

Council concurred.
