<br />39 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 11. 1965 <br /> <br />Ci ty pertaining to the City's plans to introduce fluorine into the City's <br /> <br />public water supply, thus indicating that such treatment of the public <br /> <br />water supply would present no problems to these users in their manufacturing <br /> <br />or other processes. <br /> <br />At the suggestion of City Manager Hirst, Council scheduled a "ground-breaking" <br /> <br />ceremony for the new central Fire Station (at Moss and Church Streets), for <br /> <br />Friday, M11Y 14th, at 10:00 A.M., noting that construction of this station is <br /> <br />to begin Monday, May 17th. <br /> <br />On behalf of the Martinsville Junior Chamber of Commerce, Mr. James H. Ford <br /> <br />(a member and attorney at law) appeared before Council in connection with his <br /> <br />organization's recommendation submitted to Council on March 9, 1965, wherein <br /> <br />Council was urged to appoint a Recreation 'Steering Committee and empower same <br /> <br />lito secure a professionaly supervised survey of the city recreation program, <br /> <br />facili tie~3 and proj ected needsll and, pending the findings of the survey, the <br /> <br />Jaycees had urged Council to employ a full-time Recreation Director. City <br /> <br />Manager H~rst pointed out that a recent organizational revision now permits <br /> <br />the Public: Works Department to maintain and provide recreational facilities <br /> <br />wi thin budgetary limi tation~o and, too, that a full-time Recreation Director <br /> <br />has been appointed and will assume his duties on June 15, 1965; and, in view <br /> <br />of these developments, City Manager Hirst suggested--with full acknowledgment <br /> <br />and appreciation of the Jaycees' efforts and interest in this field--that <br /> <br />emphasis by the Jaycees and other interested groups be placed, for the time <br /> <br />being, on the long-range development phase where not fully covered by the <br /> <br />City. <br />
