<br />iOO <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 11. 1965 <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Hirst, Council adopted the following <br /> <br />ordinance 'mending sub-section It (4) (e) (2) It of :Section 14-16 of the City <br /> <br />Code, i.e., service driveway entrances; <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this eleventh day of May, 1965, that <br />Paragraph 4 (e-2) of Section 14-16 of the MARTIN'SVILLE CITY CODE <br />(1956, and as amended) be and is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 14-16 - Driveway Entrances <br /> <br />Paragraph (4) (e) (2) <br /> <br />No service driveway shall be constructed nearer an adjoining <br />private property line than five and one-half feet; except, <br />however, that in the "C-2 Commercialll district--to permit <br />maximum property utilization for buildings--a service driveway <br />may be constructed to 1dithin one foot of the adjoining property <br />line provided the driveway is to serve off-street parking or <br />off-street loading facilities on the property and provided the <br />minimum space specified in paragraph 4(d) of this section is <br />maintained between the driveway and any other driveway on the <br />same or on adjoining property. <br /> <br />Council unanimously congratulated City Manager Hirst upon his being recently <br /> <br />elected President of the Virginia Section of the International City Managers <br /> <br />Association. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a square-foot valuation of the Sparrow <br /> <br />Estate property, as taken from the assessment records of the Commissioner of <br /> <br />the Revenue, which property is located on the south side of East Church <br /> <br />Street between Broad and Ellsworth Streets and from which estate and <br /> <br />property the City has been attempting to obtain ten feet of right-of-way <br /> <br />to permit construction of a sidewalk of the width to be constructed in <br /> <br />front of other properties along this block, in connection with current <br /> <br />widening of this street. <br />
