~88

TUESDAY

APRIL 13. 1965

Sheriff C. P. Witt, of Henry County, appeared before Council and asked that a

local license tax assessable for a circus, to appear in Martinsville on April

17th under the sponsorship of the Henry County Junior Deputy Sheriff League,

be waived. Council informed Sheriff Witt that, in keeping with established

precedent regarding license taxes for presentations sponsored by charitable

and other non-profit organizations, the tax should be paid as assessed and due

and--if paid by the Junior Sheriffs' group--the Council would direct a refund

of said tax upon written request.

Upon recommendation of City Manager Hirst, Council approved for execution by

Mayor Wilson and the Council's Clerk an easement agreement which would permit

the Southwestern Virginia Gas Company to use the City's easements within

property owned and developed by the Whittle Family Irrevocable Trust, in
Forest Park.

Attorney W. R. Broaddus, III, on behalf of Mrs. Erie Sue Ramsey, appeared

before Council to seek the conveyance by the City to Mrs. Ramsey of a small

tract of land as residue from the reconstruction of Route 58 East, being

located on the south side of said Route 58 East near Boden Street and

separating Mrs. Ramsey's property from frontage along this highway. Upon

motion, Council unanimously authorized the conveying of this tract to Mrs.

Rams ey .

Council acknowledged receipt of the periodic and latest reports of inspection

made by the State Department of Welfare & Institutions of the City's Prison

Farm Jail and the City's Police Department detention facilities.
