II A B I 1li 2 Y 111~, ! 1 B g 1 !i 1 ! <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE REROUTING OF <br />VIRGINIA ROUTE 57 <br />WITHIN THE CITY OF :r,iARTINSVILLE, VIRGINIA <br /> <br />"'-', <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Virginia priIllExy State Route 57, which passes through the City of Martinsville:- <br />is a prime carrier~ in increasing volun~, of traffic through and within Pittsylvania, <br />Henry and. Patric~\. Counties and the City of hartinsville and is ~ additionally, an inlportant <br />traffic connection between other major north-south and east-west primary routes in the <br />area; and <br /> <br />..~S, the value and use of the Route 57 is such as to require that it be located~ <br />ligned and maintained to those standards as would be most beneficial to the using <br />kffic and the areas traversed; <br />'-- <br /> <br />Nm/; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Nartinsville, Virginia, <br />in special session this 15th day of December, 1964~ that the City Council does petition <br /><.:h0 7L~ginia Department of Highways for a relocation of a portion of the routing of <br />'iirginia Primary State Route 57 within the City of },lartinsville; <br /> <br />BE IT IiUR'I'HER RESOLVED that this request for routing change is explained to the Department <br />of Hig:J.\.Jays by the following description of the present routing of Route 57 through the <br />City and the following description of the revision as proposed thereto and by a ID8.p <br />which is attached to and made a part of this Resolution: <br /> <br />1 . PRESENT ROUTE <br /> <br />Virginia Route 57 enters the north Corporate Limits of the City (Point A) at what is <br />designated by City street name as Chatham Road. It continues on Chatham Road to <br />intersection with U. S. Route 53, Church Street (Point B). There it joins Route 58, <br />Church Street, proceeding to the intersection of Northside Drive (point C); thence <br />continuing with Route 53 e.nd Church Street to Starling Avenue, where Route 58 turns <br />south. Route 57 continues westward on Church Street to C1Fl.y Street (point D). At <br />Cl~y Street (Point D), due to the one-way street pattern in the central business <br />district:. Route 57 divides. The west-bound traffic of Route 57 follows C1El.y Street <br />to Lain street; Hain Street to Jones street; Jones street to Fayette Street; Fayette <br />street to intersection of Eliz.abeth Street (Point E); Fayette street, continuing, to <br />intersection of U. S. Route 220, Nemorial Boulevard (point F). The east-bound <br />traffic or opposite movement of Route 57, through the above business district, moves <br />from Route 220~ Memorial Boulevard~ (point F) along Church street to the intersection <br />of a projection of Elizabeth Street (point G); thence continues on Church Street to <br />rejoin the west-bound routing at Clqy street (point D). Beyond and west of U. S. 220, <br />Hemorial Boulevard, (point F) all Route 57 traffic is directed along Fayette Street <br />to pine Hall'Road (point H) and thence continues along Fayette Street to the west <br />corporate Limits (Point I). <br /> <br />2. PROPOSED ROUTE <br /> <br />This Resolution would petition for the new routing of Route 57 to be as follows.
