<br />3: <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 13. 1964 <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this 13th <br />day of October, 1964, that it doth hereby vacate, abandon and <br />discontinue all of "F", "G", and "H" Streets, and further doth <br />direct that the Clerk of the Circuit Court of the City of <br />Martinsville shall mark the same so vacated, abandoned and <br />discontinued on his records. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Hirst, Council unanimously adopted the <br /> <br />following resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute and file with <br /> <br />appropriate authorities an application for a Federal grant of $33 ,600.00 <br /> <br />towards the cost of constructing specified sewerage system projects, viz., <br /> <br />the 'Smith Lake Outfall; a portion of the Jones Creek Interceptor; and <br /> <br />Lines 4-10, 4-11, 5-1, and 5-2, this being for the 1964-65 fiscal year: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this 13th day of October, <br />1964, that Julian F. Hirst, City Manager of the City of <br />Martinsville, be and i~3 hereby authorized to execute and file <br />an application entitled, "APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL GRANT FOR <br />SEWAGE TREATMENT WORKS UNDER 33 u. S. c. 466 et seq.", said <br />application being made to the United StatES of America for <br />Federal assistance in the amount of $33,600.00 in the constru- <br />ction of the following phases of the City's sewerage system <br />improvement program, viz., the Smith Lake Outfall; a portion <br />of the Jones Creek Interceptor; and Lines 4-10, 4-11, 5-1 and <br />5-2. <br /> <br />By letter dated October 7, 1964, Mr. E. E. Simpson, Personnel Supervisor of <br /> <br />Continental Can Company's local plant, informed Council that the source of <br /> <br />water supply for the plant's sprinkler system (fire protection) will soon <br /> <br />no longer be available and, consequently, the plant must make arrangements <br /> <br />for another source of supply. Accordingly, the Continental Can Company <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />requested Council to provide a source through the construction of an eight- <br /> <br />inch water line, inasmuch as the present four-inch line near the plant would <br /> <br />not provide an adequate supply for fire protection. Council continued this <br /> <br />request for study. <br />
