<br />96 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGU'ST 11. 1964 <br /> <br />Account towards the City's share of acquiring additional land and towards <br /> <br />meeting certain engineering fees. <br /> <br />Council continued for study a proposal, submitted by City Manager Hirst, <br /> <br />as an outline for the adoption by Council of a policy ordinance governing <br /> <br />the extension of sewer lines within the City. Meanwhile, Council unanimously <br /> <br />directed that the City construct a sewer line connecting a line on Corn <br /> <br />Tassel Trail with a line along the south side of Lake Lanier to serve <br /> <br /> <br />properties owned by Mr. William C. Beeler, located along the west side of <br /> <br />Root Trail between Corn Tassel Trail and Lake Lanier. <br /> <br />Members of the Board of Directors of the local Retail Merchants Association <br /> <br /> <br />appeared before Council and, by letter, lIendorsed the action of the <br /> <br />Martinsville City Council in calling for a voter referendum to finance <br /> <br />construction of municipal facilities and to launch the city-wide thorough- <br /> <br />fare programll. In addition, the Directors urged Council to establish an <br /> <br />advisory committee to assist in publicizing all facts pertinent to the bond <br /> <br />referendum. Council, then, upon recommendation of City Manager Hirst, revised <br /> <br />the bond referendum ordinance--as placed on first reading July 28, 1964--to <br /> <br />elaborate upon the purposes therein, viz., liTo finance the cost to build <br /> <br />and construct new municipal building or buildings, furnish and equip such <br /> <br />buildings, and grade and improve the lands incidental thereto; to build and <br /> <br />construct a new fire station or stations, furnish and equip such station, and <br /> <br />grade and improve the lands incidental thereto; to build and construct a jail <br /> <br />or prisoner detention facilities, and furnish and equip such jailor facilities, <br /> <br />or to build and construct, jointly with one or more other governmental units, <br /> <br />prisoner detention facilities and furnish and equip such facilities; to plan, <br /> <br />construct, reconstruct, widen, extend and relocate certain streets and <br />
