<br />2! <br /> <br />TUE;)DAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 11. 1964 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br /> <br />City Hall, Tuesday, August 11, 1964, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being <br /> <br />present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick, M.D.; Harry L. <br /> <br />Boaz; Thomas J. Burch; and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held July 28, 1964. <br /> <br />In connection with the sidewalk-construction project along East Church Street <br /> <br />for st. Joseph Catholic Church, Council accepted Cl deed from the church <br /> <br />conveying right-of-way to the Clty for this project. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council continued for study a written report submitted by City Manager Hirst <br /> <br />pertaining to drainage conditions in the Jefferson Circle-Craig Street area. <br /> <br />Council indicated that, as to sewage over-flows in the area, the City would <br /> <br />make every effort to correct this condition but, as to flooding by water, <br /> <br /> <br />further ~ltudy would be required to determine whether the Ci ty has any <br /> <br />responsibility in the matter other than to offer suggestions to the several <br /> <br /> <br />property owners involved. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />In conjunction with a financial statement of its condition and activities, <br /> <br />the Blue Ridge Airport Authority (through its chairman, Mr. R. P. Gravely, <br /> <br /> <br />Jr.) requested of Council an appropriation of $3,750.00--to be matched by the <br /> <br /> <br />Henry County Board of Supervisors--to enable the Authority to complete the <br /> <br />acquisition of land for the airport and to meet certain obligations <br /> <br /> <br />incidental to the development of the airport; whereupon motion, Council <br /> <br />unanimou:::ly appropriated said sum of $3, 750.00 from its General Fund Emergency <br />
