<br />2~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 9. 1964 <br /> <br />school buildings and playgrounds therefor; parking lots for the convenience <br />of those attending or visiting any of the foregoing; and church manses, <br />parsonages, or rectories. <br /> <br />Mr. J. M. McKenna, of Southeastern Adjustment Company, and representatives of <br /> <br />General Adjustment Bureau and James C. Green Company, all of whom maintain local <br /> <br />insurance adjustment offices, appeared before Council in protest of the IIprofessional" <br /> <br />license tax classification assigned these firms by Commissioner of the Revenue J. <br /> <br />David Morris, claiming that their types of business more properly should be classi- <br /> <br />fied as IIbusiness service"; however, upon interrogation and on basis of information <br /> <br />furnished by the Commissioner of the Revenue as to classifications applied to such <br /> <br />businesses by other Virginia cities, Council took no action on this reclassification <br /> <br />request, thus supporting the Commissioner of the Revenue in his decision and <br /> <br />interpretation. <br /> <br />Through City Manager Hirst, Mr. Whitney Shwnate informed Council that he desires <br /> <br />to enter into a subdivision contract with the City for the development of property <br /> <br />located on Fifth 'Street, between "CII and "Ell Streets, whereby this property will <br /> <br />be provided with sewer and water services and with curb-and-gutter. Upon recommend- <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />ation of City Manager Hirst, Council authorized the preparation of such a contract, <br /> <br />subject to the approval of the Planning Commission, for Council's consideration. <br /> <br />By letter dated June 8, 1964, (from) Burch-Hodges-Stone, Inc., through Mr. Robert E. <br /> <br />Saville, Secretary-Treasurer, offered to dedicate ten feet of right-of-way "on the <br /> <br />west side of Bridge Street for the length of the George L. Nease property at the <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />intersection of Bridge Street and Memorial Boulevard", upon the condition that <br /> <br />the City widen Bridge Street for this distance to provide a third traffic lane <br /> <br />entering Memorial Boulevard and, also, that the City constrQct curb-and-gutter- <br /> <br />and-sidewalk along this property and install necessary drainage facility for <br />
