<br />62 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 26, 1964 <br /> <br />certificated, who desire to offer for sale their home-grown products: <br /> <br />~{EREAS, the City of Martinsville, Virginia, heretofore has <br />officially designated no area within the City as a !!public <br />market place!! for use by persons who desire to offer for sale <br />farm or domestic products grown or produced by such persons <br />under the provisions of Section 22 of Chapter II of the License <br />Tax Ordinance of the City of Martinsville; and, <br /> <br />~{EREAS, there is no market place available for use by such <br />persons although there is seasonal need for such a place; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this 26th day of May, <br />1964, that it doth hereby designate the metered parking spaces <br />located at the east end of the City's Fayette Street Parking <br />Lot as a limited public market place for the purpose hereinbefore <br />mentioned and subject to all applicable regulations, including <br />those administered by the Virginia Department of Health. <br /> <br />Dr. C. J. Mathes, Director of the Martinsville-Henry County Health Department, <br /> <br />and Mr. J Coates Carter, architect, appeared before Council and reported <br /> <br />that--because of revisions of original plans for a new health center--the <br /> <br />cost of a new health center will be approximately $25,000 more than first <br /> <br />estimated, of which the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Federal Government <br /> <br />have agreed to share $15,000 if the City of Martinsville and the County of <br /> <br />Henry will share the remaining $10,000. Council was informed that the Henry <br /> <br />County Board of Supervisors has already gone on record as agreeing to under- <br /> <br />write $5,000 whereupon Council, by motion (duly seconded and unanimously <br /> <br />carried), assured Dr. Mathes that the City will assume an additional $5,000. <br /> <br />A number of citizens from the Forest Street area, whose spokesman was <br /> <br />Mr. Everett Plaster, appeared before Council with the request that immediate <br /> <br />action be taken by Council towards relieving traffic congestion and hazards <br /> <br />at the intersection of Forest Street with Starling Avenue, insisting that a <br /> <br />traffic signal light be installed at this intersection in order to provide <br /> <br />ingress and egress for the residents of the area. In support of this request <br />
