2, TUESDAY APRIL 14. 1964 By letter dated April 7, 1964, the Blue Ridge Airport Authority reques ted Council to provide the sum of $10,162.25--as its share--towards the cost of pur(~ha~)lng approximately 58 acres of land (from Lester Lumber Comp3ny), in addition to that alrf3ady acquired, for a site for the Blue Ridge Airport, as authorized by Council on February 27, 1964. To provide a portion of the funds required to carry out Council's commitment of February 27th, Council appropriated to this project (or account) the SUJl of $7,000.00, being the unappropriated balance from the proceeds from the sale of land to West Window Company at the airport industrial tract. Council also authorized the expenditure of funds necessary--as to the City's share--to acquire the Lester tract. City Manager Hirst presented a cost report covering improvements to the Clearview School playground, indicating a deficit of some $1,300.00 upon completion of work already authorized. In additIon, City Manager Hirst infonned Council that the cost of lighting the playground is estimated to be $17,000.00-$18,000.00, or some $11,000.00 if only the ball-dianlond field is lighted. Council unanimously directed that the complete lighting program be under-;:,aken and completed as soon as possible, the cost of which to become a loan against the City's 1964-65 budget. In response to a recent inqu~_ry from officials of Henry County as to ways and means to up-date and repair the War Memorial (;:.ronor Roll) Board located on the lawL of the Henry County Courthouse, Council c~ontinued its committee (of Councilmen Burch and Stone and City Manager Hirst, appointed December 12, -1961) to pursue this proj ect further in collaboration with Henry County of~i~ials.
