<br />2, <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 14. 1964 <br /> <br />By letter dated April 7, 1964, the Blue Ridge Airport Authority reques ted <br /> <br />Council to provide the sum of $10,162.25--as its share--towards the cost of <br /> <br />pur(~ha~)lng approximately 58 acres of land (from Lester Lumber Comp3ny), in <br /> <br />addition to that alrf3ady acquired, for a site for the Blue Ridge Airport, <br /> <br /> <br />as authorized by Council on February 27, 1964. To provide a portion of the <br /> <br /> <br />funds required to carry out Council's commitment of February 27th, Council <br /> <br /> <br />appropriated to this project (or account) the SUJl of $7,000.00, being the <br /> <br />unappropriated balance from the proceeds from the sale of land to West <br /> <br />Window Company at the airport industrial tract. Council also authorized <br /> <br />the expenditure of funds necessary--as to the City's share--to acquire the <br /> <br />Lester tract. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst presented a cost report covering improvements to the <br /> <br /> <br />Clearview School playground, indicating a deficit of some $1,300.00 upon <br /> <br />completion of work already authorized. In additIon, City Manager Hirst <br /> <br /> <br />infonned Council that the cost of lighting the playground is estimated to <br /> <br />be $17,000.00-$18,000.00, or some $11,000.00 if only the ball-dianlond field <br /> <br /> <br />is lighted. Council unanimously directed that the complete lighting program <br /> <br /> <br />be under-;:,aken and completed as soon as possible, the cost of which to become <br /> <br />a loan against the City's 1964-65 budget. <br /> <br />In response to a recent inqu~_ry from officials of Henry County as to ways <br /> <br />and means to up-date and repair the War Memorial (;:.ronor Roll) Board located <br /> <br />on the lawL of the Henry County Courthouse, Council c~ontinued its committee <br /> <br />(of Councilmen Burch and Stone and City Manager Hirst, appointed December <br /> <br />12, -1961) to pursue this proj ect further in collaboration with Henry <br />County of~i~ials. <br />
