<br />(5) authorized the release of bond insurance on William R. Shwnate
<br />and substitution of the bond insurance on the incoming
<br />Treasurer, as result of the auditor's recommendation supported
<br />by receipts filed, indicating that the auditor has examined
<br />the late Treasurer's accounts and that his accountability is
<br />properly supported by assets presented to the auditor; and
<br />
<br />(6) acknowledged the power of attorney granted to J. S. Beck by
<br />Mrs. Ruby S. Shwnate (wife of the late Treasurer) , dated
<br />January 15, 1964, to act for the estate of William R. Shwnate
<br />in the settlement of Mr. Shumate's accounts.
<br />
<br />As to the Commonwealth of Virginia accounts in custody of the late Mr. Shumate,
<br />
<br />the following order was entered by the Council:
<br />
<br />At a meeting of the Council for the City of Martinsville, Virginia, held
<br />in the Council room there of on Tuesday, the 28th day of January, 1964;
<br />
<br />This day came C. M. Brame, representing the Auditor of Public Accounts of
<br />Virginia, and presented to the Council, through W. H. Yeaman, Director of
<br />Finance, a reconciliation of the account of William R. Shumate, deceased,
<br />Treasurer of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with The First National Bank
<br />of Martinsville and Henry County, Martinsville, Virginia, showing the amount
<br />of funds deposited with said bank, for State Account at close of business,
<br />January 12, 1964, as follows:
