<br />2C <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 26, 1963 <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />That: <br />1 . <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />The proposed off street parking requirements for <br />churches not in the C-2 district (Note: Churches <br />in this district are presently exempt from any <br />requirement for parking) be revised to read "Church <br />Sanctuaries - one space for every 6 seats.1I <br />Types of business classifications be added under <br />C-3 that would allow 1ISign Shops where there is <br />no outside storage1l and "Wholesale supply houses <br />where they are associated, in the same building, <br />with a retail appliance outlet and provided there <br />is no outside storage." <br />Martinsville General Hospital and Community Hospital <br />be zoned or classified as P-1 Professional. <br />The Coca-Cola Bottling plant building area of their <br />property be zones M-1 Industrial. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />It was the feeling of the Commission that the 15 foot front year required <br />in the C-3 district should be retained to provide the proper light and air. <br />Also they felt the 25 foot rear yard requirement in C-3 should be retained <br />to provide the proper buffer between C-3 and residential properties against <br />which this zone abuts and to provide loading and unloading areas in the rear. <br />Those existing buildings and properties suffering unusual hardships due to <br />these requirements have recourse to the zoning board of appears for variances <br />should that become necessary. <br /> <br />Council also acknowledged receipt of a letter from Mrs. Katherine Jones Goode <br /> <br />opposing the recommended zoning for the Jones Estate property at 320 East Church <br /> <br />street. Planning Commission members present, however, supported their recommended <br /> <br />zoning for this property and adjacent property by informing Council that different <br /> <br />zoning might open this area up to types of businesses not appropriate to the area <br /> <br />and to uses other-than-that contemplated by the Jones Estate. <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Hirst, Council authorized the construction <br /> <br />of a sidewalk (approximately 600 feet in length and nine feet in width) on the <br /> <br />west side of Cleveland Avenue from.Water Street to Starling Street and, also, <br /> <br />unanimously appropriated funds from the General Fund's Emergency Account in the <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />amount of $2,100.00 for this project. <br />
