<br />~06 <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 26, 1963 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that, through the excellent cooperation of <br /> <br /> <br />the Adjutant-General of the Virginia National Guard, appropriate revisions <br /> <br /> <br />to the plans for the new National Guard Armory have been made which would <br /> <br /> <br />increase the total cost of the project by $23,010.00, of which the City's <br /> <br /> <br />additional share would be $5,750.00. In acceptance of City Manager Hirst's <br /> <br /> <br />recommendation and report, Council unanimously appropriated the sum of <br /> <br />$5,750.00 (to finance the City's additional cost) from the General Fund <br />Emergency Account. <br /> <br />Mr. J. Robert Walker, former Mayor and Councilman, appeared before Council <br /> <br />and described his need of old brick to complete a project at his residence <br /> <br /> <br />at 501 Mulberry Road, stating that the only brick he could locate as matching <br /> <br /> <br />those already used are in the brick sidewalk along the east side of Broad <br /> <br /> <br />Street from the E. P. Waller property to Brown Street. Inasmuch as eventually <br /> <br />the City will replace this brick sidewalk with the concrete type recently <br /> <br />constructed northward from the Waller property, Mr. Walker offered to expedite <br /> <br />this replacement by replacing with concrete a portion of the brick sidewalk from <br /> <br />which he might reclaim the old brick, without cost to the City, should the City <br /> <br /> <br />give to him the brick he will need for personal use. This, by unanimous action, <br /> <br />Council agreed to do in acceptance of Mr. Walker's offer. <br /> <br />Upon petition of the American Furniture Company, Council authorized the petitioner <br /> <br />to construct an overhead passage-way over Aaron Street between its PlanlNo. 2 <br /> <br />and its new addition under construction, in accordance with plans presented by <br /> <br />the petitioner. <br /> <br />Upon motion, Council unanimously concurred in the following tentative Welfare <br /> <br />Department I?[;'J..l-':i~', financial needs for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1965, <br /> <br />and June 30, 1966, subject to final action by Council on City budgets to be <br />
