<br />15: <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 11. 1963 <br /> <br />... <br /> <br />Representatives of the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce and other <br /> <br />interested citizens appeared before Council and requested that--because of increased <br /> <br />cost estimates--the City agree to assume approximately $5,600.00, in addition to <br /> <br />that already promised, of the cost of a new health center for the area. Inasmuch <br /> <br />as the Hen~r County Board of Supervisors has not officially acted upon a similar <br /> <br />(increased) request, Council deferred action thereon pending official action by <br /> <br />"'- <br /> <br />the Supervisors. <br /> <br />After considering a proposed amendment to the City's Zoning Code, which was <br /> <br />presented to Council on May 28, 1963 with the recommendation of the Planning <br /> <br />Commission that same be adopted, and which would provide new regulations for the <br /> <br />location and erection of lIadvertisingll signs, Council called for a public hearing <br /> <br />to be conducted by Council in its Council Chamber, June 25, 1963. <br /> <br />Council continued for further study a proposed amendment to the City's License <br /> <br />Tax Code, pertaining to retail sales from mobile units. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Hirst, Council adopted the following resolution <br /> <br />,.,,- <br /> <br />whereby the City requests the Virginia Department of Highways to construct a <br /> <br />sidewalk on the south side of Route 58 East, from Salmons Street to Cabell Street, <br /> <br />and to re-design a portion of said Route 58 East to acco~modate industrial traffic <br /> <br />at its intersection with Cabell Street, all to be done in conjunction with the <br /> <br />current Route 58 reconstruction and for which the City will pay its twenty-five <br /> <br />per cent share: <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />~EREAS, the City of Martinsville, The Department of Highw~s of the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia, and the United States Bureau of Public Roads <br />presently are participating jointly in the widening and improving of <br />U. S. Route 58 (East) within the corporate limits of the City of <br />Martinsville, which project is now under construction and if identified <br />as State No. 58-120-101, C-501; and <br /> <br />) <br />
