<br />1:1 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 12. 1963 <br /> <br />,........"',...~ <br /> <br />approved, upon suggestion, the removing of the first vehicular parking space at the <br /> <br />corner of Main and Franklin Streets to expedite the flow of traffic proceeding from <br /> <br />Franklin Street into Walnut Street and, also, the rearranging of angular parking <br /> <br />spaces on the west side of Jones Street. <br /> <br />Upon being informed that the Appalachian Power Company has recently adopted a new <br /> <br />tariff, to which the City of Martinsville through its power agreement with Appalachian <br /> <br />is eligible and through which there would be a slight reduction to the City in the <br /> <br />cost of its purchased power froG Appalachian, Council authorized the amending of the <br /> <br />City's electric power agreement with Appalachian to take advantage of this new <br /> <br />tariff, further authorizing Mayor Wilson to execute appropriate amendment to said <br /> <br />contract. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst informed Council that a plaque will soon be received in recognition <br /> <br /> <br />of outstanding awards won by the Martinsville Fire Department and the Volunteer Fire <br /> <br /> <br />Department in the 1962 National Fire Prevention Program competition. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged with appredation a report of the Inspection Department, <br /> <br />covering building permit activity and construction cost values for the calendar <br /> <br />year 1962. <br /> <br />City Manager first reported that bids for authorized electric substation work have <br /> <br />been invited for receiving on March 12, 1963, and that bids for the construction <br /> <br />of the proposed sewage treatment plant will be advertised February 17th for <br /> <br />receiving March 28, 1963. <br />
