<br />FRIDAl <br /> <br />MAY 4. 1962 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />easterly direction in a straight line 6950 feet, more or less, <br />to a present Martinsville City corporate limit monument shown <br />on the present map of the City of Martinsville and designated <br />as having co-ordinates of N 67,0.31.99 and E 42,.370.98; thence <br />with the City of Martinsville' s corporate limit line N 560 <br />291 15" E 2,153.65 feet; thence continuing with said corporate <br />limit line S 700 041 45" E 7700 feet, more or less, to a point <br />in the north corporate limit line; thence leaving said corporate <br />limit line in a northeasterly direction 4300 feet, more or less, <br />to a point, passing near the rear line of a tier of lots on the <br />northside of Sunset Dt-ive; thence with the rear line of a tier <br />of lots fronting the east side of SUnset Drive in a southeasterly <br />direction 1200 feet, more or less, to a point, which point is <br />located in said back lot line approx:l.mate1y' 200 feet fram <br />Virginia Primary Route No. 57; thence in a southwesterly direction <br />860 feet, mare or less, to a point, crossing Virginia Route No. 57 <br />at appro:x::ima.tely 200 feet and crossing Grandview Road at <br />approximately 700 feet, said point being approximately 800 feet <br />east of the existing East corporate limit line of the City; thence <br />in a southwesterly direction 1900 feet to a point, said point <br />being in the east corporate limit line of the City at its inter- <br />section with Appalachian Power Company 1 s 132 KV transmission line; <br />thence with said east corporate limit line south 80 251 15" W <br />10,600 feet, more or less, to an established point in the south <br />line of Spruce Street said point having co-ordinates of N 52,257..34 <br />and E 5.3,111.3.3; thence with the south line of Spruce Street in <br />a southeasterly direction 2198.21 feet to the point of beginning. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />The proposed annexation area lying between the proposed corporate <br />lim! t line and the existing corporate limit lines contains 2048 <br />acres, more or less, which equals 3.2 square miles by planimeter <br />mea sur EIIlent s. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />A map is on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City <br />of Martinsville, which indicates generally subdiVisions, in- <br />dustrial areas, farm areas, vacant areas, and others, together <br />with any other information deemed relevant as to possible <br />future uses of property within the annexation area. For <br />the purpose of serving notice, a map of the area, photo <br />statically reduced and showing the same information by markings, <br />is attached hereto and made a part hereof. <br /> <br />,. The necessity for and the expediency of the proposed annexation <br />is as follows: <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />(a) The area adjacent to the City, and especially the portion <br />within the proposed annexation area, has recently undergone vetry' <br />substantial residential, commercial and industrial developmentWand certain areas within the present corporate limits have <br />likewise experienced greater actiVity and mercantile development. <br />As a result, an increased number of families will recpire suitable <br />areas for housing developnent beyond the capacity of the vacant lands <br />now within the corporate limits and the many families now living in <br />apar'bnents or small quarters in residential ~eas within the present <br />
